You decided to stay in and spend New Year’s Eve with your SO but now that it’s crunch time you still don’t have any concrete plans and panic is starting to set in. Sound familiar? Here are some ideas to make your low key NYE special.
Make a list
If there’s one thing I love, it’s making lists. When my boyfriend I first started dating we made a list of things we wanted to do together that year and hung it on the fridge, checking them off as we went. Spend the evening dreaming of all the fun you’ll have in 2017 by creating your very own couples to-do list.
Start a happiness jar
2016 got off to a rough start (and some would say things only got worse from there), so to combat the urge to wallow in sorrow we decided to make a happiness jar. Every time either of us felt particularly happy (even for something small, like receiving a letter in the mail) we wrote it down on a piece of paper along with the date and put it in the jar. Now, as the year comes to a close we’ll spend time reminiscing about all the happy moments instead of focusing on the negative. If you’re feeling pessimistic about 2017, why not spend New Year’s Eve creating your own happiness jar?
Write out your holiday cards
For those of you old fashioned folks like myself who still send out holiday cards (I’m talking real, physical cards sent via snail mail) but haven’t gotten around to it yet, take time this NYE to write personalized messages to your loved ones. It’ll give you the opportunity to reflect on how lucky you are to have them in your life and they’ll appreciate the extra effort you put into writing a message just for them!
Eat something decadent
Good food is a priority for me on a daily basis, and New Year’s Eve is no different. But you don’t have to cook for hours to enjoy a good meal. There are plenty of holiday-worthy dishes that only take a few minutes to prepare. For example, cheese fondue can be made in a matter of minutes and is undeniably delicious.
Play a game
I’m not a huge game lover, but from time to time it can be fun. Evenings in are the perfect opportunity to dust off an old board game or a deck of cards and breathe new life into them.
No matter what you end up doing tonight, I hope you spend time with someone you love. Wishing you all the very best in 2017!
